2024 Ricky Brenton, Missinippi Airways
Our 2024 recipient: Ricky Brenton of Missinippi Airways
Ricky is a strategic leader with expertise in aviation always focusing on, maintaining and enhancing safety. He excels in the development and mentoring of staff in their careers, allowing a place to comfortably advance. Also consistently demonstrates an exceptional ability in maintaining relationships with owners, customers, community and staff.
Growing up in Bridgeport, a small fishing community in Newfoundland, and being the son of an inshore fisherman allowed him the opportunity to spend his summers on the ocean helping in the fishing boat. This fostered the beginning of a work ethic that he would take with him in all of his endeavors.
He was introduced to management at an early age and received his promotion to store manager at the Hudson’s Bay Company two months shy of his 21st birthday. This experience gave a love of the north and an opportunity to learn how to become self sufficient.
Ricky started his flying career at the age of 27, flying floats and skis in Northwestern Ontario and Northern Manitoba before he acquired his IFR and flew Medevacs and Scheduled Service in Nunavut for Keewatin Air, from 1999 till 2009. He left industry in 2009 for a position at Transport for a year and a half before returning to industry as Chief Pilot for Keewatin Air.
In 2013 he accepted the position of General Manager at Mathias Colomb Cree Nation airline “Missinippi Airways”. This position with the support of the Board of Directors has allowed the airline to grow four-fold, always maintaining a family values company and our philosophy of “Safety First, Customer Service Second and Profit Third”. Throughout his career he flew numerous types of aircraft, served as Chief Pilot, Operations Manager and General Manager at a variety of companies and was an Aircraft Check Pilot performing approximately 900 check rides. Most individuals have since advanced their career and realized their career aspirations and many flying for a major airline.
